We can not forget our roots because that were the things that made us who we are. To abolish something like that is not clever at all. Race is not only classified by the color of our skin, it is the way of how we live our life, the mutual respects, the passion that we share, the common things that we do, the history that we pride forever, the involuntary love for unity. All that and many other reasons count. The fact is, we are very comfortable to be in our own skin, our own race.
Race is like a family. We do not wish to separate a family here aren’t we? All we need to do is find ways on how to make a family and other families blend together very well, should we succceed this by having the same respect to each other as much as we get from our own.
Treat people around you like how you want other people to treat you. Be kind, polite, generous and wise. Things will go your way, things will go our way. I vote no. I stand by my motion not to forget my racial background and Malaysia is my background all along to even start with. You and me, we are one huge family. Family fights, family argues. We have our flaws some times aren’t we?
It’s okay to give up your race to become a new Bangsa Malaysia. But the question also is whether all the favouritsm can be done away with and treat the new Bangsa Malaysians’ equally. No NEP, no quota system etc. Language, culture, tradition should be allowed to add colour to the Bangsa Malaysia. No need even to change names, but selflessness should be the mainstay. If this one factor cannot be considered then I suppose Bangsa Malaysia will only remain a dream.
hear hear atramulo..i agree completely..no more can be said.. forgetting one’s my racial background?..its foolish and truly unacceptable..
oh come on Azam.. you cannot actually expect the Chinese and the Indians to go back to their mainland? they are born and raised HERE. their relatives are here. so do their favorite things. have it ever occur to you that they may love Malaysia just as much as we the Malays do? it’s not fair for you to say things like that. What they do not like is the prejudice and the double standards that we have on them.
sure, just like Mariam and the others, i do agree that you do not have to discard your race just to be in harmony with other races. Malaysia IS Malaysia because of its multi-races and multi-culture.
Azam is absolutely correct..Chinese should be going back to China and India should be going back to India. I am the forth generation of Chinese in Malaysia and sad to say, up till today I feel like a parasite that living in a country that I thought all Chinese and Indian been accepted unconditionally. We pay tax and remain patriotic; as the matter of fact I would kill someone if I saw them burning Malaysia flag. However, we are not being treated at one of the Malaysian citizen. Me & My son were insulted by the officer when he applied for Mykad; and we were really sad and offended. I have to tell my son that it was due to the work stress they had thus the rudeness.
I believe family is the root that hold us together, then by having a inter-race marriage, then we should be able to form a community that truely representing Malaysian. Otherwise, Malaysia Gov should be talking to China and India gov to establish a program to send the Chinese and Indian back to their ‘own’ countries.
